In 2005, she established a Teen Center in Purcellville, and wrote a Youth Teen Activities Directory for western Loudoun teens.  She served a three-year appointment to the Loudoun County Community Services Board, as well as a two-year appointment to the Purcellville Town Council, where she served on the Public Safety Committee, the Infrastructure Committee, and the Ways and Means Committee. She was appointed to the committee of three who successfully negotiated the resolution that led to getting Woodgrove High School built.

She has also been a member of numerous organizations and has decades of volunteer work, including starting and running a community-based English as a Second Language program and substance abuse and violence prevention programs.  She has been the Program Director of Women and Men in Telecommunications, the Chair of the Community Organization for Prevention Education, held various positions in scouting, is a member of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, the Purcellville Business and Professional Association, the Rotary Club, and the Farm Bureau.  She was awarded “Rotarian of the Year” 2011 by the Rotary Club of Purcellville.
