Loudoun County Soil
Soils can be thought of as the "skin" that makes up the land of Loudoun County. Along with water and air, soil is one of the natural resources humans and wildlife cannot live without. Almost everything that we use depends on soil in one way or another, whether it is the food we eat or the foundation of our house.
Bedrock
Bedrock geology and soil have a close relationship because all soil material, except for the organic component, was derived from rock. Usually, but not always, the soil came from the underlying bedrock. Read more about geology in Loudoun County.
Land Development
Soil and geologic information are important tools used in the proper development of land. This information can also be used to predict potential impacts of land development on erosion, water quality and quantity, and failing slopes, as well as valuable insight to mitigating post-development problems.
