Volunteer Benefits: Loudoun County Fire-Rescue

Retirement Benefit

At age 55, a volunteer may qualify to receive the volunteer retirement benefit. The amount varies based on the involvement of the volunteer during their length of service. Payment can be deferred to a later date if requested by the volunteer. This topic is discussed thoroughly during the volunteer orientation held monthly and more information can be obtained by each station's benefit/membership coordinator.

Personal Property Tax Reduction

A volunteer may qualify for a personal property tax reduction on their vehicle. The vehicle must be garaged in Loudoun County and be registered or leased in the volunteer's name. The vehicle must also be the primary vehicle used to perform volunteer duties. In order to receive this benefit a volunteer needs to complete the Personal Property Tax Reduction Form and meet minimum company requirements. Check with you station for more details. 

College Tuition Reimbursement

Volunteers may be eligible to receive tuition reimbursement for classes taken at an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university. This benefit allows a total of $4,000 ($1,000 a year for up to 4 years) for any college courses taken. Courses do not have to be fire-rescue related.

Workers Compensation

Loudoun County offers Worker's Compensation for volunteers who become injured or ill while performing volunteer duties. A Volunteer Report of Injury form must be completed by the volunteer and signed by the duty officer within 24 hours of incident. Paperwork should be submitted to the Office of Health and Safety as soon as possible. If a volunteer is transported, the Safety Officer on-duty needs to be notified immediately. This can be done by contacting Communications. Be sure to provide the receiving hospital with the Worker's Compensation insurance card. Do not provide your personal insurance information. IRS Tax Benefits

Volunteers may claim certain deductions on federal income tax for volunteer expenses (e.g., mileage, personal equipment, etc.). Consult your tax advisor.

Loudoun County Credit Union

Volunteers may take advantage of participation in a credit union. Valid county ID required. For further information, call 703-777-4744.

Business Discounts

Certain businesses across the county have agreed to provide discounts to Fire and Rescue volunteers. Members must identify themselves with a valid Loudoun County Fire-Rescue Identification Badge. Some businesses may require volunteers to be on-duty to receive the benefit. Discounts are subject to change or be eliminated at any time without advance notice. 

Access to Training Academy Gym

The LCFR Training Academy has a gym with cardio and strengthening equipment. All volunteer members are welcome to use the facility at no cost. Volunteers must have a physical on file and follow all guidelines set by training staff in order to utilize the facility and equipment.
