A conservation easement is a voluntary legal agreement in which a landowner retains ownership, use, and enjoyment of their property while they convey certain rights to a qualified land trust to protect farms, forested areas, historic sites, and natural resources.

The Conservation Easement Assistance Program is a grant program to assist land owners with the upfront costs of placing property under a conservation easement for which a land trust will be the holder.
