Availability of Conservation Easements

Historic preservation easements are a type of conservation easement authorized by Virginia law. Conservation easements are voluntary, legal agreements between landowners and non-profit land trusts that permanently limit use of designated land in order to protect its cultural, historical, scenic and/or other values. In addition to protecting and conserving land, conservation easements may also provide owners with certain local, State and Federal tax benefits. Landowner's interested in seeking a conservation easement for all or a portion of their land should contact one of the many non-profit, Land Trust organizations in our area to learn more about the benefits of doing so.
