Loudoun County’s Emergency Communications Center has the capability to receive text to 911 messages. Text to 911 is available from all major carriers in Loudoun.

Call if You Can / Text if You Can’t

Contact 911 only when you have a fire, medical or police emergency. In an emergency, a voice call to 911 is always preferred because important information can be relayed to the dispatcher more quickly. In some cases, however, sending a text to 911 is good alternative.

Know When to Text to 911

Send a text to 911:

  • If you are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability.
  • If you cannot speak due to an injury or medical condition.
  • If you are in a threatening situation and a voice call could increase the threat.
  • If you cannot make a call because your mobile phone reception is poor.
