The Chaplain Committee exists to provide spiritual support to members of the fire-rescue and law enforcement community in Loudoun County and to the citizens they serve during emergency response to fire, medical, and police responses. Support may come in the form of basic counseling, aid in directing individuals to additional resources such as funeral homes, assistance to emergency responders during a call such as helping family members to understand what is happening while allowing responders to perform their jobs unimpeded, etc. Some chaplains will also perform funerals, weddings, and other ceremonies upon request
The committee is comprised of individuals that undertake training to equip them to respond to emergency scenes and come from the volunteer fire and rescue companies, the sheriff's department, or local police departments in Loudoun County. Organizations may have their own chaplain for internal matters, but only members of this committee who have been trained to do so may respond on scene to an emergency incident.
The general purpose of the Recruitment and Retention Committee is to establish and maintain an active Fire-Rescue Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Program in Loudoun County.
