Stalking & Telephone Threats

Stalking

An act committed by a person, who on more than one occasion engages in conduct directed at another person with the intent to place, or when he knows or reasonably should know that the conduct places that other person in reasonable fear of death, criminal sexual assault, or bodily injury to that other person or to that other person's family or household member is guilty of stalking. (VA State § 18 2, 1960.3)

If you are a victim of stalking you ought to never assume that you are overreacting. Call the police and report anytime that you suspect an incident of stalking. Keep a journal of the stalking incidents, dates, times, places, and/or events etc. Try to identify as much as you can about the stalker, without placing yourself in harms way. Remember to save any gifts, objects, photos, printed emails, recorded phone conversations or messages, this is all good evidence. Use self protection, such as pepper spray, personal alarm, self defense class, and always make sure your doors are closed. Go to a magistrate or judge and obtain a protective order.
