Internet Safety Rules for Young People
- Do not give out personal information such as your address, telephone number, parents' work address/ telephone number, or the name and location of your school without your parents' permission.
- Tell your parents right away if you come across any information that makes you feel uncomfortable.
- Never agree to get together with someone you meet online.
- Never send a picture or anything else without checking with your parents.
- Do not respond to any messages that are mean or make you feel uncomfortable.
- Talk to your parents and set up rules for going online. They can help you with planning how long you should be online and areas that you can visit.
- Do not give your passwords to anyone other than your parents.
- Check with your parents before downloading or installing anything.
- Be a good online citizen and do not do anything that hurts other people or is against the law.
- Help your parents understand how to have fun and learn things online and teach them about the Internet, computers and other technology.
- Remember, people are not always who they say they are.
- Any cyber-bullying or inappropriate content should be reported to a trusted adult.
