Road Renaming Initiative 2022-2023

  • The process of renaming a number of roads and streets throughout Loudoun County began in April 2022.
  • The renaming of these roadways is a result of
    • The Board of Supervisors’ September 2020 decision to inventory and review Confederate and segregationist symbols in the county
    • The Board's November 2021 decision to rename rename Fort Johnston Road, Jeb Stuart Road, and streets adjacent to and within the Town of Round Hill and
    • The Board’s December 2021 decision to rename Routes 7 and 50.
  • The process began with several neighborhood streets and will continue with the renaming of Route 7 and Route 50.
  • The entire process is expected to be completed in mid-to-late 2023.

What to Expect for Residents and Businesses

  • Residents and businesses should not begin using their new addresses until they are notified by the County.
  • Affected residents, tenants and businesses will be notified of the effective date of their new address and street name approximately sixty days in advance. This will allow affected property owners sufficient time to change addresses.
  • The county will also provide the new road and street names to Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, TomTom and the United States Postal Service, requesting that these providers update their data and systems.
  • For residents and businesses, the effective date of the new address will be coordinated with the installation of new street signs.
  • Business owners with current county business licenses on record will receive a survey from Loudoun Economic Development regarding possible impacts on your business, so the county can assist you in making this change.

Implementation Timeline

This initiative will occur on a rolling basis for specific roads and streets. Choose your road or street below for details.

  1. Leesburg Court and Little River Lane
  • To avoid confusion and ensure accurate and timely public safety responses, the county’s regulations prohibit duplicate road names
  • As a result of the renaming of Route 7 and Route 50, Leesburg Court in Sterling and Little River Lane in Aldie must be renamed.
  • Both Leesburg Court and Little River Lane must be renamed in advance of renaming Route 7 and Route 50 to Leesburg Pike and Little River Turnpike.
  • Affected property owners were asked by mail to submit name suggestions. After staff have reviewed these suggestions to make certain they follow the ordinance, affected property owners will be asked to vote by ballot. The name that receives the most votes will become the new street name.
  • The implementation process began in April 2022 and is expected to be completed by August 2022.
