Health Clearances

Building, occupancy, or zoning permits issued by the Loudoun County Department of Building and Development may require a health clearance. The Health Department reviews plans for compliance with applicable health codes before providing approval on the health clearance. Health clearances may be needed for the following projects:

  • Homeowners making additions to their homes, including installing a private pool. If required, a site visit will be scheduled before the health clearance can be provided. There is also a $25.00 associated fee.
  • Change of use projects, including residential buildings converting to non-residential uses such as, home daycare, brewery, winery, bed & breakfast, etc. Additional information or permitting may be required; see the Guidelines for Change of Use or New Use Properties (PDF).
  • Restaurants: Health clearances for building and occupancy permits will be provided after required plan documents are submitted.
  • Public swimming pools: Health clearances for building and occupancy permits will be provided after required plan documents are submitted.
