Traffic Signal Construction Underway for Braddock Road Intersection Improvement Project

Work to construct a traffic signal on Braddock Road is underway as part of the ongoing improvement project at the intersection of Braddock Road (Route 620) and Supreme Drive (Route 1257) and Summerall Drive (Route 1258) in Aldie. In the coming weeks, crews will complete signal construction and coordinate with the Virginia Department of Transportation to begin the signal activation process. 

Area residents will continue to see work performed in the median, milling and paving activities, and crews applying pavement markings in the roadway over the next several weeks.  

Substantial completion of the Braddock Road intersection improvements is currently estimated for summer 2024. More information about Loudoun County Capital Projects and phases is provided at loudoun.gov/capitalprojects.

About the Project
The Braddock Road and Summerall Drive and Supreme Drive Intersection Improvement project provides for the installation of a traffic signal and turn lanes at the intersection of Braddock Road (Route 620) and Supreme Drive (Route 1257) and Summerall Drive (Route 1258). In addition, the 0.73-mile segment of Braddock Road near the intersection will be widened from two to four lanes and a 10 ft. wide shared use path will be installed along the north side of Braddock Road from the end of the existing path at the Greenfield Crossing community to the existing path at the Braddock Corner community. 

The project contractor, Van Metre Homes at Braddock, L.L.C., is also constructing proffered offsite improvements in this area, including widening Braddock Road from two to four lanes between Royal Hunter Drive and Gum Spring Road (Route 659). Both segments of Braddock Road are currently estimated to be completed in summer 2024.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Scheduled for Braddock Road Project May 10

Loudoun County invites members of the public to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the start of construction of the Braddock Road at the Summerall Drive/Supreme Drive Intersection Improvements project, on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. The event will take place along Braddock Road near the project site in Aldie.

Members of the Board of Supervisors and representatives of the Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure and Van Metre Homes at Braddock, L.L.C. will be on hand for the ceremonial breaking of ground, kicking off construction for this project.

This project provides for the installation of a traffic signal and turn lanes at the intersection of Braddock Road (Route 620) and Supreme Drive (Route 1257) and Summerall Drive (Route 1258). In addition, the 0.73-mile segment of Braddock Road near the intersection will be widened from two to four lanes and a shared-use path will be installed along the north side of Braddock Road from the end of the existing path at the Greenfield Crossing community to the existing path at the Braddock Corner community.

Construction is currently estimated for completion in summer 2024.

Board Awards Construction Contract for Braddock Road Intersection Improvement Project

At the January 17, 2023, Business meeting, the Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution to award a contract to construct the Braddock Road and Summerall Drive and Supreme Drive Intersection Improvements project to Van Metre Homes at Braddock, L.L.C. (Van Metre). As a result of the award, Van Metre is expanding the original scope of their proffered Braddock Road offsite improvements to include construction of the County’s adjacent project. 

The Notice to Proceed with Construction phase follows the construction contract award and is currently estimated spring 2023. More information about Loudoun County Capital Projects and phases is provided at loudoun.gov/capitalprojects.
