Posted on September 23, 2022 at 11:03 AM by Heidi Kellum

At the September 20, 2022 Board of Supervisors Business Meeting, the Board approved the Russell Branch Parkway Corridor (Route 1061) Study's findings and recommended improvements along Russell Branch Parkway between Ashburn Village Boulevard and Ashbrook Place, an 0.85-mile-long segment.

The study, initiated by the Broad Run District Supervisor at the December 1, 2020 Business Meeting, investigated vehicular and pedestrian safety and the need for possible intersection safety improvements, including reviewing vehicular speed along Russell Branch Parkway that includes five intersections. The intersections are:

  • Ashbrook Marketplace Plaza
  • Ashbrook Commons Plaza/Navajo Drive (Route 2978)
  • San Joaquin Terrace/Hopi Drive (Route 2979)
  • Atwater Drive (Route 3001)/Lumbee Way (Route 2984)
  • Ashbrook Place (Route 3002)

Recommendations were developed based on existing safety and operational characteristics, traffic signal analyses and crosswalk evaluations. The proposed recommendations include constructing pedestrian improvements and signalizing both Navajo Drive (Route 2978)/Ashbrook Commons Plaza/Russell Branch Parkway and Ashbrook Marketplace Plaza/Russell Branch Parkway, as described in the staff report. These recommendations will be included in the Fiscal Year 2024 Capital Improvement Program budget process for Board consideration.
