Construction of Vehicular Access Continues at Pennington Garage

Posted on October 14, 2020 at 2:15 PM by Shawn Zelman

Construction activity associated with a temporary access point to the Pennington Parking Garage at the southeast corner of the garage has ramped up this week, beginning October 13, 2020. As a result, residents in the area may observe increased construction activity as crews work to build a driveway and a pedestrian walkway between the garage and North Street, NE in Leesburg. Construction of the new access point is expected to last two to three weeks.

The new driveway will provide temporary access to the garage in preparation for the closure of Church Street, NE, which will temporarily close access to the garage through the main entrance. The temporary closure of the section of Church Street that currently proves access the Pennington Lot and Garage is necessary for crews to improve the road. Construction of the improvements to Church Street are scheduled to begin in the spring of 2021.

The County will provide advance notice to the public when vehicle traffic is scheduled to shift from the garage’s main entrance to the temporary access point. This is not expected to occur until the spring of 2021.

This southeast corner of the parking garage was closed to pedestrians in June 2020. For now, all visitors to the courthouse who park in the Pennington Garage should exit through the main entrance that connects to the Pennington Lot.

Visitors to the Loudoun County Courthouse will continue to have access to free parking throughout the duration of the project. The Pennington Lot and Pennington Garage are located approximately two blocks from the courthouse near the intersection of Church and North Streets, NE.
