The construction of the new Loudoun County Courthouse is reaching a new milestone this month: the erection of the building’s steel structure is scheduled to begin soon. This next phase in the project requires a crane and trucks carrying steel to the jobsite. As a result, residents should expect travel delays in the vicinity of the new courthouse due to partial road closures.
The crane for this work is expected to arrive on January 11, 2021, and will stage on the jobsite, directly adjacent to Edwards Ferry Road. Erection of the steel structure is expected to take several months during which time numerous deliveries of steel are expected. Steel deliveries will be received on the westbound lane of Edwards Ferry Road, resulting in temporary lane closures.
Residents should be aware of the following:
- Safety barrels will be placed around the section of Edwards Ferry Road where steel deliveries will be received.
- Street-side parking will be closed along Edwards Ferry Road, between 114 Edwards Ferry Road and Church Street, for the entire duration of steel erection.
- When receiving steel deliveries, the sidewalk along the northern edge of Edwards Ferry Road will be closed between 114 Edwards Ferry Road and Church Street. Flagman will safely direct pedestrian traffic around the delivery area.
- When receiving steel deliveries, one lane of Edwards Ferry Road will be blocked to vehicular traffic. Signs and flagman will be provided to safely guide vehicular traffic around the delivery area.
- At the end of each day’s deliveries, safety barrels and signage will be removed, thereby allowing two-way vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic along Edwards Ferry Road. Parking will be prohibited along Edwards Ferry Road until the conclusion of steel deliveries.
- No more than two delivery trucks are expected on Edwards Ferry Road at any given time and are expected to stage adjacent to the jobsite.
Crane and steel deliveries are expected to enter the Town via the Route 15 Bypass and Edwards Ferry Road. Once unloaded, trucks will continue west on Edwards Ferry Road and exit Town via West Market Street to the Route 7 Bypass. All deliveries are expected during normal, allowable work hours. The contractor has received the required approvals for impact to traffic on Edward Ferry Road.
Visitors to the Loudoun County Courthouse will continue to have access to free parking throughout the duration of the project. The Pennington Lot and Pennington Garage are located approximately two blocks from the courthouse near the intersection of Church and North Streets, NE.
