Vaccine Update March 19, 2021
(Last update March 12, 2021)

Loudoun County continues to vaccinate individuals from the pre-registration waitlist as quickly as possible as vaccine supply allows. Since last Friday’s update, the county has made significant progress through the waitlist of people and administered more than 17,000 additional vaccines. In addition, the waitlist has been updated to include new data that has not been previously reported.

Waitlist Status

Loudoun County has started offering appointments to individuals in the current priority groups who submitted pre-registrations online or by phone on February 12 (advanced from February 2 in last Friday’s report).

The waitlist for the 65 and older priority group has been exhausted. People 65 and older are now being scheduled for vaccination appointments as soon as possible after a pre-registration is submitted. If you or someone you know is 65 and older and completed a pre-registration form but has not been contacted for an appointment, please contact the Loudoun County Health Department at 703-737-8300. If you have not completed a pre-registration form, visit vaccinate.virginia.gov or call 877-829-4682.

Why has the waitlist increased?

This week, you may notice a significant increase in the number of individuals on Loudoun’s waitlist. There are currently 100,115 remaining on the waitlist. While more than 17,000 additional doses of vaccine have been administered over the last week, the waitlist total has increased as a result of the inclusion of pre-registrations submitted through the statewide pre-registration system beginning February 16, 2021. Previously, we were unable to report accurate waitlist totals due to glitches in the recently launched statewide pre-registration system. More than 20,000 pre-registrations from Loudoun residents were submitted over the first two days the new system was open. We are now able to report a complete waitlist total, which includes both pre-registrations from the statewide system and any remaining pre-registrations that were submitted to the Loudoun County Health Department prior to 5:00 p.m. on February 12, 2021.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) pre-registration system allows all individuals, regardless of phase or priority group, to submit a pre-registration form. The waitlist continues to grow daily as more individuals pre-register. Individuals are removed from the VDH waitlist when the vaccination date for their first dose of vaccine is reported in the system.

Current Priority Groups
Earlier today, Loudoun County Health Department announced the expansion of vaccination opportunities to all frontline essential workers who are in Virginia’s Phase 1b priority group. In the coming days and weeks, the county will be inviting more people in the Phase 1b group to register for appointments.

Current priority groups now include:
  • Health care workers
  • People age 65 and up
  • People age 16-64 with underlying health conditions
  • Front-line essential workers:
    1. Police, fire, and hazmat worker
    2. Corrections and homeless shelter workers
    3. Child care/Pre-K – 12 teachers/staff
    4. Food and agriculture workers (including veterinarians)
    5. Manufacturing workers
    6. Grocery store workers
    7. Public transit workers
    8. Mail carriers (USPS and private)
    9. Officials needed to maintain continuity of government (includes judges and public-facing judicial workers)
    10. Clergy/Faith leaders
    11. Janitorial/Cleaning staff
When you are contacted by the Health Department for a vaccination appointment may depend on the exact date and time you registered, your priority category, and the state’s mandated formula of vaccine allocation. It may take several weeks to contact everyone who is on the waitlist for a particular day if registration volume was high. The wait time for an appointment continues to be about six to eight weeks from the date of pre-registration.

Federal Pharmacy Program

On March 17, VDH announced the federal retail pharmacy partners have expanded vaccine eligibility to all Phase 1b priority groups. Individuals who are interested in getting vaccinated at a local pharmacy may visit VaccineFinder.org to find eligible pharmacy locations, hours, phone numbers and scheduling links where available.

Vaccine Doses for March 12 - March 18

Total COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in Loudoun is 116,700 (up 20,567 since last Friday’s report), and more than 41,284 Loudoun County residents are fully vaccinated with two doses of vaccine (up 7,054 since last Friday’s report).

This week, the Health Department received 5,070 first doses of vaccine (down 1,100 since last Friday’s report). The Health Department also received a quantity of doses for those people who need their second dose.

The vaccine data dashboard can be viewed at loudoun.gov/vaccinedata.

Phase 1c

Earlier this week VDH announced some health districts would be moving to Phase 1c. At this time, however, Loudoun County along with the other Northern Virginia health districts will not be moving into Phase 1c. The Health Department anticipates the ability to further expand the vaccinations to the Phase 1c priority group in April.  Anyone over age 16 who lives or works in Virginia will be eligible for a vaccine in Phase 2, which is expected to begin by May 1.

If you have not already pre-registered for a COVID-19 vaccine, visit vaccinate.virginia.gov or call 877-829-4682.
