The Design to Improve a Farmwell Road Intersection is Almost Developed

Posted on April 5, 2021 at 9:04 AM by Heidi Kellum

The design to improve a Farmwell Road Intersection, located between Smith Switch Road and Ashburn Road in Ashburn, Virginia, is almost developed. The project provides for the design, Right-of-Way (ROW) and construction of intersection and pedestrian improvements along the corridor.

In the next quarter, Loudoun County’s design consultant will continue work on the project design, which is almost complete. Major design elements will be presented to the Board of Supervisors for endorsement at their April 20, 2021 Business Meeting. ROW acquisition will follow the completion of the project design and is currently estimated to begin in 2022.

The Farmwell Road Intersection Improvement project scope includes the addition and/or expansion of turn lanes and receiving lanes at several Farmwell Road intersections, including the intersections at Ashburn Road, Dodge Terrace, Ashburn Village Boulevard, and Smith Switch Road. Pedestrian improvements and connectivity along the corridor, consisting of a shared use path along the south side and a sidewalk along the north side of Farmwell Road, are also part of the project scope.

Construction of the improvements is currently estimated to begin in 2023.
