Loudoun County Update

• Loudoun Pauses Use of Johnson & Johnson Vaccine: The Loudoun County Health Department has paused its use of the single-dose Johnson and Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with this announcement from the Virginia Department of Health. The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended a pause in the use of the J&J vaccine out of an abundance of caution while an advisory committee further investigates whether a rare and severe type of blood clot is a possible side effect of the vaccine. Six such cases have been reported. More than 6.8 million doses of J&J vaccine have been administered in the U.S. 
  • What Happens to the Scheduled J&J Appointments in Loudoun: About  2,840 people were scheduled to receive J&J vaccine at Loudoun County’s vaccination clinic on Saturday, April 17, 2021. The Health Department will replace the J&J vaccine with Pfizer vaccine for this Saturday’s clinic. All individuals who have appointments on April 17 are encouraged to keep their appointments and receive the first in a two-dose series of Pfizer vaccine. Everyone who is impacted by this unanticipated change is being contacted directly by the Health Department about the change in vaccine and will receive instructions for canceling or rescheduling their appointment should they choose to do so.
  • Vaccination Efforts Continue: Loudoun County will continue its ongoing vaccination efforts using available supplies of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Loudoun is in Phase 2: All residents 16 and older are eligible to pre-register for a vaccine at vaccinate.virginia.gov.

• Make a Sacred Time a Safe Time: If you observe Ramadan, please do so safely. Continue to follow these steps to help protect yourself and others from COVID-19:
  • Wear a mask over your nose and mouth.
  • Stay 6 feet apart from others who do not live with you.
  • If you plan to celebrate with others, outside is better than inside. 
  • Avoid crowds.

• Next COVID-19 Testing Event is April 20: The next Loudoun County-sponsored COVID-19 testing event will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2021, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at Dulles South Recreation & Community Center, 24950 Riding Center Drive, South Riding. The county is holding free, drive-thru COVID-19 testing events open to everyone on Tuesdays in April. More information, including the complete schedule and links to required registration forms that can be filled out and printed ahead of time, may be found at loudoun.gov/COVID19testing.
