Prior to the start of construction of the new Loudoun County District Courthouse, located on Church Street NE in Leesburg, Loudoun County will be requesting that the Town of Leesburg allow Church Street to close between Market and Cornwall Streets for approximately nine months. This closure is needed to construct the facility’s utility requirements and a pedestrian tunnel that will connect the new courthouse to the existing courthouse. The nature of this construction requires a full closure of Church Street.
The Leesburg Town Council will be discussing this issue as an agenda item at the work session scheduled for January 13, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall. More information about Town Council meetings is posted at leesburgva.gov.
The county will also be requesting that the town allow for intermittent closures of Church Street following the construction of the tunnel. It may be necessary to close Church Street to vehicular traffic from 7:00 a.m. up to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, until completion of the greater project. The street will remain open at night and on weekends, and on holidays, unless construction activities force a closure to protect public safety.
The construction of the new Loudoun County Courthouse, located on Church Street NE in Leesburg, will begin in late January or early February 2020.
