Crane Work Scheduled for May 25, 2021

Posted on May 25, 2021 at 7:01 AM by Shawn Zelman

The contractor for the new Loudoun County Courthouse is planning to install roof-top air handling units on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. To do this, a crane will be staged on the construction site adjacent to Edwards Ferry Road. One lane of Edwards Ferry Road will be closed while the crane is lifting the units from the truck beds parked along the road. Residents should expect intermittent lane closures on Edward Ferry Road during the transfer of the units to the roof.

Construction will start at the contractor’s current allowable work hours of 7:00 a.m. and will be completed by 3:30 p.m. Drivers and pedestrians should use extra caution when traveling through this area and follow all directions from the posted signs and road crews. For safety, no pedestrians will be allowed in the work area along the north side of Edwards Ferry Road.

Construction of the new facility is now estimated at 25 percent complete. Future phases of construction include construction of concrete deck slabs, electrical pathway installation, exterior wall framing, and building a tunnel under Church Street that connects the existing courthouse to the new building. The project is expected to be complete and open to the public in 2023.

Visitors to the Loudoun County Courthouse will continue to have access to free parking throughout the duration of the project. The Pennington Lot and Pennington Garage are located approximately two blocks from the courthouse near the intersection of Church and North Streets, NE.
