Courts Complex Construction Crews Making Progress on New Courthouse Structure

Posted on June 9, 2021 at 9:24 AM by Heidi Kellum

Crews working on the expansion of the Loudoun County Courthouse are making progress on the new courthouse structure under construction at the corner of Church Street and Edwards Ferry Road in downtown Leesburg. The Courts Complex Expansion project includes the design and construction of a new 92,000-square-foot Loudoun County District Courthouse and renovation of existing courts facilities, including new parking facilities.

Over the last two months, crews completed the installation of structural steel and the concrete slab on metal deck floor system for the new courthouse building, which is the typical floor system used in structural steel construction. In addition to ongoing work to rough-in electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems, crews have begun framing exterior walls and installing spray-on fireproofing material.

Future phases of construction include pathway installation and building a tunnel under Church Street that connects the existing courthouse to the new building. The project is expected to be complete and open to the public in 2023.

Visitors to the Loudoun County Courthouse will continue to have access to free parking throughout the duration of the project. The Pennington Lot and Pennington Garage are located approximately two blocks from the courthouse near the intersection of Church and North Streets, NE.
