Crews Install Roof Supports and Stairs for New Courthouse Structure

Posted on August 3, 2021 at 10:36 AM by Heidi Kellum

Over the past few weeks, crews working on the expansion of the Loudoun County Courthouse installed trusses to support the triangular architectural elements of the roof, and the first set of stairs in the new courthouse under construction at the corner of Church Street and Edwards Ferry Road in downtown Leesburg. The Courts Complex Expansion project includes the design and construction of a new 92,000-square-foot Loudoun County District Courthouse and renovation of existing courts facilities, including new parking facilities.

In addition to ongoing work to rough-in electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems on the ground and first floors, crews continue to frame exterior walls of the new structure. Work to install exterior wall sheathing was completed on the ground floor and has just begun on the first floor. The installation of interior walls on the ground level is progressing and crews have begun masonry work.

Future phases of construction include building a tunnel under Church Street that connects the existing courthouse to the new building. The project is expected to be complete and open to the public in late 2023.

Visitors to the Loudoun County Courthouse will continue to have access to free parking throughout the duration of the project. The Pennington Lot and Pennington Garage are located approximately two blocks from the courthouse near the intersection of Church and North Streets, NE.
