• Total Vaccine Doses Administered - Loudoun: 519,973 (up 1,223 since last report) I  Virginia: 10,532,362 (up 65,608 since last report)

Loudoun County Update

• COVID-19 Pfizer Vaccine Booster Now Available in Loudoun for Eligible Groups of People: As we reported earlier today, Loudoun County is now offering booster doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for certain individuals as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The booster doses of Pfizer vaccine for people who already received their initial two-dose series of Pfizer vaccine are being offered by appointment only at the Dulles Town Center clinic for the groups approved by the CDC and authorized by the Virginia Department of Health: 
  • People 65 years and older; residents of long-term care facilities; people 18-64 years old with underlying medical conditions; and people 18-64 years old who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission (PDF) because of occupational or institutional settings, such as, but not limited to, health care workers and caregivers for frail or immunocompromised people.
  • The boosters for these specific populations are to be administered at least six months (180 days) after the second dose of Pfizer vaccine. The recommendations from the CDC do not include people who received the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccines. Loudoun County Health Director Dr. Goodfriend says we should learn more about boosters for other vaccine manufacturers in the coming weeks.
  • Loudoun County continues to provide first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine to residents 12 and older; and a third dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine to residents who are moderately and severely immunocompromised individuals.
  • COVID-19 vaccines are also available through providers other than the county such as medical offices and pharmacies including, but not limited to, CVS, Giant Food, Harris Teeter, Safeway, Walgreens, Walmart and Wegmans. These locations have the benefit of being able to also provide flu vaccine at the same time. Visit vaccines.gov to find a vaccination site near you.

• COVID-19 Vaccines are Free: The federal government is providing COVID-19 vaccine free of charge to all people living in the United States, regardless of their immigration or health insurance status. If anyone asks you to pay for access to a COVID-19 vaccine, it’s a scam. Do not share your personal or financial information if someone calls, texts, or emails you promising access to a vaccine for an extra fee. • Next COVID-19 Testing Event is October 5: The next Loudoun County-sponsored COVID-19 testing event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 5, 2021, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at Franklin Park, 17501 Franklin Park Drive, Purcellville (Follow signs to the baseball field parking lot.) Who should get tested? Anyone exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue and a new loss of taste or smell or anyone who has potentially been exposed to someone with COVID-19, regardless of their vaccination status. The drive-thru testing event is free and open to all. To save time, required registration forms can be filled out ahead of time. The forms as well as information about other testing providers and the schedule of events may be found at loudoun.gov/covid19testing.
