Loudoun County Update

  • County Offers Free COVID-19 Testing Weekly: Loudoun County has expanded our twice-a-month COVID-19 testing events to weekly. The additional testing events give residents more options for free testing. The drive-thru events are scheduled for Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at various locations across the county. The next event is scheduled for October 19 at Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park, 42405 Claudia Drive, Leesburg (Enter the park on Crosstrail Boulevard from Sycolin Road.) Required registration forms can be filled out ahead of time. You can find links to the forms as well as a schedule of testing events online at loudoun.gov/COVID19testing.
  • COVID-19 Prevention Guidance for Halloween: To have a safe Halloween celebration amid the COVID-19 pandemic, health officials recommend outdoor trick-or-treating in small groups and discourage any indoor parties.  Loudoun County Health Director Dr. Goodfriend recommends:
    • Trick-or-treating outdoors in small groups or hosting a small outdoor gathering.
    • Incorporating a face covering into a child’s costume (over the age of 2).
    • If giving out candy, consider individual bags to hand out or a contactless option such as a candy chute.
    • Washing your hands before going trick-or-treating or handing out candy. Hand sanitizer should be used while trick-or-treating or handing out candy when soap and water aren’t available.
    • Maintaining physical distancing from people not in your household or who have not been vaccinated.
    • Read the complete guidance at loudoun.gov/safehalloween.
  • COVID-19 Vaccines are Widely Available: The Loudoun County Health Department encourages everyone age 12 and older who has not already received a COVID-19 vaccine to get vaccinated as soon as possible. The Loudoun County COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Dulles Town Center is open by appointment only. Vaccine is widely available from many other providers in Loudoun, such as medical offices and pharmacies including, but not limited to, CVS, Giant Food, Harris Teeter, Safeway, Walgreens, Walmart and Wegmans. Visit vaccines.gov to find the vaccination site most convenient for you.
  • How to Watch or Listen to Upcoming FDA Meetings on COVID-19 Vaccines: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has posted information on how to follow the virtual meetings of an advisory committee that will consider topics related to COVID-19 this month. The Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, October 14, to discuss authorizing booster doses of the Moderna vaccine; Friday, October 15, to discuss authorizing booster doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine; and mixing vaccine types - receiving initial doses of one COVID-19 vaccine and, later, a booster dose of another manufacturer's vaccine; and Tuesday, October 26, to consider the use of a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.
