Loudoun County Update

• Free COVID-19 Testing: Health officials say if you have potentially been exposed to someone with COVID-19, regardless of your vaccination status, you should be tested for COVID-19. Also, you should get tested if you are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue and a new loss of taste or smell. Loudoun County offers free, drive-thru COVID-19 testing on Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at various locations in the county. The next testing event is tomorrow, Tuesday, October 19, at Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park, 42405 Claudia Drive, Leesburg (Enter the park on Crosstrail Boulevard from Sycolin Road.) Required registration forms can be filled out ahead of time. You can find links to the forms as well as a schedule of testing events online at loudoun.gov/COVID19testing.
  
• Cases Among Children Added to VDH Data Insights: The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) announced today an addition to its COVID-19 online data that can help track the impact of the coronavirus on the state’s youngest residents. It shows COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths in children 0 to 17 years of age. The COVID-19 in Virginia: Cases Among Children dashboard was added because of the increase in COVID-19 cases among children across the state since the end of the summer. Since March 2020, VDH reports that there have been 127,997 COVID-19 cases among children 0 to 17 years, 380 hospitalizations and nine deaths. Read the complete VDH news release.
• Booster Update: The Virginia Department of Health is planning for the expected approval of booster shots for people who have completed either the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine series. An advisory panel to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is scheduled to consider whether to recommend the boosters when it meets October 20-21. This follows a recommendation in favor of the boosters from the Food and Drug Administration’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee. In a statement released in response to the development, Virginia’s Vaccination Liaison Dr. Danny Avula said Virginia continues to plan for providing Moderna and Johnson & Johnson booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines. Virginia is already providing a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine booster dose at least 6 months after completion of the primary series, for certain individuals who received the Pfizer vaccine. Visit vaccinate.virginia.gov to find a convenient location for receiving a booster dose or the initial series of a COVID-19 vaccine. 
• Vaccines for Children: Health officials are also planning for expected approval of COVID-19 vaccines for children. The Food and Drug Administration’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet  Tuesday, October 26, to consider the use of a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.
