Posted on January 5, 2022 at 9:14 AM by Heidi Kellum

Construction crews at the Loudoun County Courthouse Expansion project at the corner of Church Street and Edwards Ferry Road in downtown Leesburg recently completed the installation of new storm water structures at the intersection of Church Street and Cornwall Street. The expansion project includes the design and construction of a new 92,000-square-foot Loudoun County District Courthouse and renovation of existing courts facilities, including new parking facilities. In addition to the storm water structures, new water lines and storm piping were recently installed on North Street. Work on Church Street, from Market Street to Cornwall Street is underway in preparation for a new tunnel and utilities.

On the inside of the building, crews continue to work on building systems and have begun to prepare mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for inspections. Crews have also begun courtroom framing. Work to install internal stairwells and second floor framing and masonry is nearing completion.

On the outside of the building, work to install brick veneer on the south and west elevations and to prepare the roof for the installation of an air barrier system is ongoing. Over the next several weeks, crews will complete brick veneer on the south elevation and air barrier sheathing on the north and east facades of the building.

Future phases of construction include building a tunnel under Church Street that connects the existing courthouse to the new building. The project is expected to be complete and open to the public in 2023.

Visitors to the Loudoun County Courthouse will continue to have access to free parking throughout the duration of the project at the Pennington Lot and Pennington Garage which are  located approximately two blocks from the courthouse near the intersection of Church and North Streets, NE.
