New Trail Section Open in the Linear Parks and Trails Network

Posted on March 17, 2022 at 2:56 PM by Heather Smith

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) in partnership with the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy (NVCJTA) and Potomac Heritage Trail Association (PHTA) has opened a new natural surface trail. The trail will become part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail and the Loudoun County Linear Parks and Trails network. The trail on the NVCJTA property is within a public access easement and adds an additional 2,200 ft. of trail along Broad Run. A fence was erected on the property to help separate the Academy and the trail area. Work on this project has been on going in 2021 and 2022.

Accessing the Trail

The best way to access the trail is by parking at Bles Park (44830 Bles Park Drive) and traveling to the east along Broad Run. Trail users should stay on the trail and within the 30’ public access easement.

PHTA volunteers completed over 40 volunteer work hours of clearing to complete the trail. Currently the trail ends in a loop and does not continue under the Route 7 bridge. In the future, we plan to work with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to open a new trail section under Route 7 to the Broad Run Toll House.

PRCS would like to thank the NVCJTA Board and directors for their continued partnership and willingness to make this trail section a reality.
