Interior Walls are Taking Shape at the Sterling Community Center

Posted on April 21, 2021 at 8:52 AM by Heidi Kellum

Construction crews working on the expansion and renovation project for the Sterling Community Center recently completed the interior framing for the facility. The Sterling Community Center building is undergoing renovations and an expansion that will add 2,000 square feet, improve access, and provide new outdoor spaces.

Inside the facility, work to install drywall to interior framing has begun. Drywall is used in the construction of interior walls and ceilings as a labor-saving alternative to traditional lath and plaster. Work to rough-in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the facility is progressing.

Surrounding residents may notice visible changes to the facility exterior in the coming weeks as crews have begun to install the building finishes, including brick and windows. Over the next month, crews will continue to install the exterior building finishes, interior partitions, and the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

The project, which will expand the 18,700 square-foot community center facility in Sterling, includes improving the entrances to the center, enlarging the gymnasium, renovating the outdoor pavilion, adding an outdoor amphitheater, creating new patio and lawn areas, and expanding the teen recreation area.

The Sterling Community Center project is expected to be completed in fall 2021. During the renovation, the center is providing services at an adjacent county-owned property at 150 Enterprise Street.
