Crews Make Progress on Interior and Exterior Finishes for Sterling Community Center

Crews working on the expansion and renovation project for the Sterling Community Center are making progress on the installation of building interior and exterior finishes. The Sterling Community Center building is undergoing renovations and an expansion that will add 2,000 square feet, improve access, and provide new outdoor spaces. 

Over the last few weeks, work to install exterior brick was completed and the installation of the remaining exterior finishes, such as metal panels, has begun. Inside the facility, crews are completing drywall installation and beginning to paint finished walls. Throughout the next month, work to install interior partitions and exterior finishes will continue, and parking lot construction will begin.

The project, which will expand the 18,700 square-foot community center facility in Sterling, includes improving the entrances to the center, enlarging the gymnasium, renovating the outdoor pavilion, adding an outdoor amphitheater, creating new patio and lawn areas, and expanding the teen recreation area.

The Sterling Community Center project is expected to be completed in fall 2021. During the renovation, the center is providing services at an adjacent county-owned property at 150 Enterprise Street.

Interior Walls are Taking Shape at the Sterling Community Center

Construction crews working on the expansion and renovation project for the Sterling Community Center recently completed the interior framing for the facility. The Sterling Community Center building is undergoing renovations and an expansion that will add 2,000 square feet, improve access, and provide new outdoor spaces. 

Inside the facility, work to install drywall to interior framing has begun. Drywall is used in the construction of interior walls and ceilings as a labor-saving alternative to traditional lath and plaster. Work to rough-in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the facility is progressing.

Surrounding residents may notice visible changes to the facility exterior in the coming weeks as crews have begun to install the building finishes, including brick and windows. Over the next month, crews will continue to install the exterior building finishes, interior partitions, and the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Structural Work is Complete for Sterling Community Center Renovation

Crews have completed the installation of all concrete masonry and structural steel for the Sterling Community Center Renovation. The roof is almost complete, the mechanical equipment has been set in place, and the sitework is ongoing.

Work to rough-in for mechanical, electrical and plumbing is about 60% complete and the interior framing is about 70% complete.

In the next month, power will be switched on, work will begin on the parking lots, and crews will begin installing exterior windows and doors, and drywall.
