Posted on July 24, 2023 at 11:23 AM by Heidi Kellum

The design phase for the Prentice Drive: Loudoun County Parkway to Shellhorn and Lockridge West project is currently set to be completed in summer 2023 (July/August/September). This project provides for the planning, design, right of way (ROW) acquisition and construction of Prentice Drive (Route 1071) from Loudoun County Parkway (Route 607) to Shellhorn Road (Route 643) at its intersection with Metro Center Drive and a new road, Lockridge West Road, between Prentice Drive and Waxpool Road. The project’s ROW phase will begin in summer 2023. More information about Loudoun County Capital Project phases is provided at loudoun.gov/capitalprojects.

The new segments of Prentice Drive and Lockridge Road will be four-lane urban major collectors with turn lanes, in-road bike lanes and sidewalks. This project is currently estimated for substantial completion in spring 2027. The scope of work was originally part of a larger project which included a new segment of Prentice Drive (Route 1071) in Ashburn, VA from Lockridge Road (Route 789) to Loudoun County Parkway (Route 607). More information on the adjoining Prentice Drive Project is provided here

When both projects to construct Prentice Drive are completed, existing Prentice Drive will extend west from Lockridge Road to Shellhorn Road, providing essential connectivity to the Ashburn Metro station. Funding for the project includes Local Tax funding, cash proffers and funding from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA).
