[ARCHIVED] Construction Continues on Northstar Boulevard from Evergreen Mills Road to Route 50

The original item was published from November 27, 2023 2:55 PM to November 28, 2023 1:35 PM

Crews are constructing a new segment of NorthStar Boulevard from Evergreen Mills Road to Route 50 in Aldie. Currently NorthStar Boulevard has been paved from Dulles West Boulevard to Arcola Mills Drive along with over two hundred feet of Dulles West Boulevard.  Bridge foundation, water, sewer, stormwater, and underground fiber lines work is in progress. On NorthStar Boulevard from Dulles West Boulevard to Route 50, the contractor is working on building up that portion of the road in preparation for paving the road in spring (April, May, June) 2024, weather permitting.

Loudoun County’s design-builder is constructing a new four-lane, median-divided segment of Northstar Boulevard from Evergreen Mills Road (formerly Shreveport Drive) to U.S. Route 50. The project includes a 10-foot-wide, shared-use path along both sides of the roadway and a new traffic signal at Evergreen Mills Road. At the northern end of the project, a new bridge will carry Northstar Boulevard over North Fork Broad Run. In addition, Arcola Mills Drive is being realigned to the south to intersect with Northstar Boulevard.

Northstar Boulevard is part of the North/South Corridor of Statewide Significance as designated by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), addressing congestion and mobility on parallel north/south routes between I-95 and Dulles International Airport and connecting travelers to activity centers in Loudoun County and beyond. It is part of what will be a 14-mile-long corridor extending from Route 7 south to the Prince William County line where it links to Sanders Lane which leads to the Route 234 corridor.

The county has recently opened the segment of Northstar Boulevard from Route 50 to Tall Cedars Parkway. Funding for the Northstar Boulevard Phase 1 project is provided by an FY 2017 Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) discretionary grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, VDOT, NVTA and county funds. Construction is expected to be completed by winter 2025.
