Absentee voting is now underway in Loudoun County for upcoming elections in May and June. All voters may choose the reason “2A-My disability or illness” for absentee voting due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Voters may apply for an absentee ballot online. Eligible voters in Loudoun are encouraged to cast absentee ballots for the:
- May 19, 2020, elections in the towns of Hamilton and Round Hill.
- June 4, 2020, elections in the towns of Lovettsville, Middleburg and Purcellville./li>
- June 23, 2020, Republican primary for the U.S. Senate.
Deadlines
Upcoming deadlines for the elections are:
May 19 Elections
- May 12: Final day to request an absentee ballot by mail for the May 19 elections.
- May 16: Final day to vote absentee in person for the May 19 elections.
June 4 Elections
- May 28: Final day to request an absentee ballot for the June 4 elections.
- May 30: Final day to vote absentee in person for the June 4 elections.
June 23 Election
- May 26: Final day to register to vote for the June 23 primary.
- June 16: Final day to request an absentee ballot by mail for the June 23 primary.
- June 20: Final day to vote absentee in person for the June 23 primary.
Curbside Voting
In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, social distancing measures are in place for in-person absentee voting at the Office of Elections and Voter Registration, 750 Miller Drive SE, Suite C in Leesburg, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Only curbside absentee voting is offered. There are signs directing voters to contact election officials upon their arrival.
Voter Eligibility
As Virginia does not recognize party affiliation in voter registration, all registered voters are eligible to vote in the Republican primary. However, election officials remind residents that only voters in the western Loudoun towns of Hamilton, Lovettsville, Middleburg, Purcellville and Round Hill are eligible to vote in the municipal elections.
“We continue to have voters who are not town residents asking for absentee ballots. While we appreciate the eagerness of people to exercise their right to vote, we need to remind everyone that for these municipal elections, you must be a resident of one of these five western Loudoun towns in order to apply for an absentee ballot for these elections. As a reminder, the towns of Hillsboro and Leesburg will have elections in November,” said Loudoun County General Registrar Judy Brown.
