Loudoun County Flag to Fly at Full Staff as Phase One of Reopening Begins

Posted on May 28, 2020 at 5:15 PM by Nancy McCormick

Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis J. Randall’s order to lower the Loudoun County flag to half-staff at county facilities in honor of COVID-19 victims will end at 11:59 tonight, Thursday, May 28, 2020. This coincides with the end of Phase Zero and the beginning of Phase One of the Forward Virginia reopening plan

The flag order was instituted in April in honor of Loudoun residents who have died of COVID-19 and in recognition of the many essential workers who are responding to the pandemic. The flag was flown at half-staff at county facilities every Monday from dawn to dusk.

“I am ever mindful of the human toll that this pandemic has taken,” said Randall. “While this flag order may be ending, never doubt that all of us in the county government are thinking of and honoring the victims of this disease and their families as well as our first responders and essential workers who are on the frontlines in the fight against the pandemic.”

In Virginia, local officials have the authority to lower their jurisdictional flags on public property, but not the United States or Virginia flags.
