November 2020 Update: Zoning Ordinance Committee

Posted on November 17, 2020 at 11:53 AM by MaryFrances Forcier

At its first meeting, November 12, 2020, the county's new Zoning Ordinance Committee (ZOC) elected Kevin Ruedisueli as chair and Michael Capretti as vice chair. The ZOC will meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., with additional meetings to be held as needed.

The Zoning Ordinance Committee was created by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors at its October 6, 2020 Business Meeting. The committee will serve as a sounding board for the Zoning Ordinance Rewrite, acting in a role similar to that of the previous Zoning Ordinance Action Group.

The Committee will operate under the authority of and will report to the Planning Commission. It will comprise citizen-members representing a broad spectrum of county-wide stakeholder organizations and professional areas of expertise potentially impacted by Zoning Ordinance changes.

The nine ZOAG members whose terms extended beyond September 30, 2020, were slotted into positions on the new ZOC and the remaining positions will be filled by the Board of Supervisors.

The ZOC is charged with reviewing and recommending changes to the Loudoun County Zoning Ordinance (Zoning Ordinance) in order to:
  • correct errors and inconsistencies
  • clarify regulations
  • simplify the Zoning Ordinance to make it more user friendly
  • keep the Zoning Ordinance current to reflect changes in state code, the market, economic, fiscal and land use conditions and the emergence of new uses
  • identify when proposed Zoning Ordinance amendments are inconsistent with the Comprehensive Plan and may require a Comprehensive Plan amendment.
