Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park Project

Construction on Riverside Parkway Segment 1 and 2 continues. The construction status update provided for Riverside Parkway, Segment 1 (Silvery Blue Terrace to Loudoun County Parkway/George Washington Boulevard), includes the following:

• The intersection of Silvery Blue Terrace and Lexington Drive will remain closed while a new entrance to Silvery Blue Terrace is constructed to align with the new roadway. This detour will remain in place until Riverside Pkwy has been paved and the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps are completed at these intersections. • The old wooden temporary traffic signal poles have been removed and all new poles, mast arms and signal heads have been placed at the intersection of Riverside Parkway and George Washington Boulevard. The temporary traffic movements will continue to stay in place until mainline Riverside Parkway has been completed in fall of 2021, weather permitting.
• All water lines have been completed and the majority of storm drainage pipe has been installed. Also, the majority of curb and gutter, and median strips have been placed throughout the project. Mainline Riverside Parkway and Garden Center Court (old Lexington Drive) have been paved to Smith Circle east. The remaining paving of Riverside Parkway is expected to resume in March or April of 2021, once temperatures allow for paving. 
• Crews will continue to work throughout the winter by maintaining erosion controls and storm water basins, completing the remaining storm sewer installation, placing sidewalk, placing topsoil, grading, and placing fill dirt in all areas within the median and outside of the curb and gutter. Work to remove Lexington Drive to the south of Route 7 and return the area to natural turf will continue. 

The construction status update provided for Riverside Parkway, Segment 2 (Selden Island Road to Pearl Crescent Square), includes the following:

• Curb ramps and paved paths at the intersection of Selden Island access road and new Riverside Parkway have been completed. The two remaining curb ramps at Pearl Crescent have been redesigned for ADA compliance. Work to install the ADA compliant curb ramps and the paved paths at Pearl Crescent is scheduled for February of 2021, weather permitting. While the work takes place, access to the ramps will be closed for two weeks and signage will be posted. The current condition of the ramps and paths on the northwest and northeast corners of the Pearl Crescent Square intersection is temporary to facilitate pedestrian access during the work.
• The developer for the new Riverside Square shopping center completed traffic signal work between the access road to Selden Island and Pearl Crescent Square, with signals located at the two intersections/entrances of the shopping center development and into Pearl Crescent Square. The traffic signals have been installed but will not be operational until Riverside Parkway nears completion, estimated for late fall 2021. The remaining work to complete the two intersections will take place the summer or fall of 2021, weather permitting.

This project will extend Riverside Parkway from Silvery Blue Terrace to Loudoun County Parkway at George Washington Boulevard. The scope of work includes the construction of a new four-lane, divided road segment, the removal of Lexington Drive on both sides of Route 7, a new Loudoun Water main, and the replacement of the existing temporary traffic signal at Loudoun County Parkway and George Washington Boulevard with a permanent signal. 

The completion of Riverside Parkway, in conjunction with the planned Battlefield Parkway Interchange project, will improve traffic flow and will allow Route 7 to operate as a freeway west of Countryside Boulevard in Loudoun County. 

Construction of this segment of Riverside Parkway is expected to be completed by the fall of 2021.
