Project Update: March 19, 2021
- As reported in previous project updates, the Department of Building and Development has reviewed the Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency on February 2, and has found that FEMA’s analysis does not appear to have incorporated data provided by the county’s consultant, Wood PLC (Wood).
- Wood has been in discussions with FEMA’s MT-1 contractor (the contractor tasked with providing LOMA determinations on FEMA’s behalf for our FEMA Region). The contractor recognizes the validity of the data, but due to internal FEMA policies, is not able to change the determination without new guidance from FEMA. This issue is unprecedented; therefore, a clear process does not exist.
- Wood’s watershed analysis provides detailed data for this project, and reflects the actual flow and flood conditions at the project area. Therefore, the Department of Building and Development will be submitting a formal request to FEMA requesting the data, and the use of the data, be reconsidered. We will update you as this process moves forward.
