Loudoun County Update

• Health Director Provides COVID-19 Update: Loudoun County Health Director Dr. David Goodfriend updated the Board of Supervisors on COVID-19 at the Board's April 6, 2021, business meeting. He provided information on the county’s vaccination efforts, including this week’s expansion of vaccination opportunities in Loudoun to include all people who are in the Virginia Department of Health’s Phase 1c priority group, which includes people in 13 categories of front-line essential workers. These categories are in addition to those essential workers identified in the Phase 1a and 1b priority groups. Dr. Goodfriend also expressed concern about the existence of the variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 and said the presence of the variants makes it all the more important for people to continue to take steps to prevent the spread of the virus such as wearing masks, staying six feet from others and avoiding non-essential travel.

• COVID-19 Impacts Used Car Values: Vehicle owners expect the value of their car to depreciate every year. Not this year, according to Loudoun Commissioner of the Revenue Robert S. Wertz Jr., who says COVID-19 has altered the usual trends of the automobile industry. As a result, all major vehicle valuation services saw increased used vehicle market values between January 2020 and January 2021. During the summer of 2020, prices increased over 10% for the U.S. used car market as a whole. He says Loudoun vehicle owners could see increases in their personal property tax bills that are due on May 5, 2021. Read more in this news release.
• New COVID-19 Cleaning Guidance: Soap and water may be all that’s needed to keep surfaces coronavirus-free in your home, according to the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Health officials say normal cleaning of surfaces will protect you from the coronavirus on a daily basis. While previous guidelines had encouraged fully disinfecting high-touch areas in your home, the CDC now says that cleaning areas with soap is enough to reduce the risk of surface transmission. Disinfecting surfaces, such as using bleach, is only necessary if somebody with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 has been inside the home in the past 24 hours.
• COVID-19 Testing Continues Next Week: Loudoun County's series of free COVID-19 testing events continues April 13, 2021, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at Cascades Library, 21030 Whitfield Place, Potomac Falls. The drive-thru testing events are being held every Tuesday through April at various locations in the county. Details are available at loudoun.gov/COVID19testing.
