The demolition of the former PTEX automotive shop building on East Holley Avenue in Sterling, Virginia is complete, clearing the way for the construction of an interim fire station and future parking area. The interim location will provide the Sterling Volunteer Fire and Rescue Companies a base to continue operations until construction of the new Sterling Park Safety Center is completed. Underground utility work to serve the interim station has already begun and concrete foundations will be installed in the coming weeks.
Last month, crews completed work to clear and remove asphalt from the rear lot behind the existing fire station in preparation for the construction of the new permanent station.
This project provides funding to design and construct a new 22,000 square foot replacement station for the Sterling Volunteer Fire and Rescue Companies. The new facility will replace the current 8,772-square-foot building on this site dating from 1970 and provide more storage and parking. The one-acre property will also expand by a third of an acre.
Currently, construction is estimated to be complete in summer 2022.
