Loudoun County Update

• Health Director Provides COVID-19 Update: Loudoun County Health Director Dr. David Goodfriend provided the Board of Supervisors with an update on COVID-19 during the Board's May 4, 2021, business meeting. Some key points: 
• Loudoun is headed in the right direction. The rate of cases, hospitalizations and deaths are down; the goal is to get them to zero to stop community transmission and to prevent more hospitalizations and deaths. 
• The vaccination effort is going well. Loudoun County residents overall have been receptive to getting vaccinated. The county continues to try to lower any barriers that exist to people getting vaccinated, whether it is at the county’s clinic at Dulles Town Center or in the community.  
• Anyone who is eligible and is not yet vaccinated is encouraged to schedule a vaccination appointment now with the Loudoun County Health Department so that you will be ready to travel or otherwise enjoy activities in the summer. 
• The county is preparing for the expected lowering of the minimum age for the Pfizer vaccine to age 12 and is working closely with Loudoun County Public Schools to be prepared to vaccinate younger students as quickly as possible. 
• Now that spring is here, people are encouraged to go outside as much as they can, but to enjoy the outdoors safely. With more people being outside, the Health Department is getting more reports of animal bites and questions about Lyme disease. 
• More pharmacies now have the main three COVID-19 vaccines and are offering appointments. Information is available at vaccinefinder.org.

• COVID-19 Testing Continues Next Week: The next Loudoun County-sponsored COVID-19 testing event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11, 2021, 10:00 am. - 1:00 p.m., at Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park, 42405 Claudia Drive, Leesburg (Enter the park on Crosstrail Boulevard from Sycolin Road.) More information, including the complete schedule of testing events in May and links to required registration forms that can be filled out ahead of time, may be found at loudoun.gov/COVID19testing.
