Utility Coordination Begins for Waxpool Road & Loudoun County Intersection Project

Posted on May 7, 2021 at 8:33 AM by Heidi Kellum

Loudoun County has begun utility coordination for the upcoming Waxpool Road and Loudoun County Parkway Intersection project, recently completing the design of an underground duct bank for fiber-optic line relocation. Fiber-optic lines provide broadband service for internet access, carrying digital information over long distances. Once constructed, the project will widen and improve intersections along Waxpool Road (Route 625) at Loudoun County Parkway (Route 607).

In this quarter, the project team will submit the design plats (land maps) to Loudoun County Building and Development for review and approval. In the next quarter, right-of-way (ROW) acquisition activities will be initiated, and utility coordination will continue. Construction will follow the completion of ROW acquisition and coordination with utilities, currently estimated for fall 2023.

The Waxpool Road and Loudoun County Parkway Intersection project provides for the planning, design, right-of-way acquisition (ROW) and construction for widening and intersection improvements along Waxpool Road at Loudoun County Parkway. The scope of work includes triple left turn lanes from westbound Waxpool Road onto southbound Loudoun County Parkway, and a channelized (separated) right turn lane with an acceleration lane from northbound Loudoun County Parkway onto eastbound Waxpool Road. When complete, the new lanes will accommodate left turns and greater capacity from Waxpool Road onto southbound Loudoun County Parkway and right turns from northbound Loudoun County Parkway onto Waxpool Road.
