Loudoun County is scheduled to begin the pavement milling, final paving and pavement marking operations on the new segment of Riverside Parkway during the week of June 14, 2021. The work is expected to continue through early July 2021, weather permitting. The roadwork, which will impact the entire length and intersections of the new Riverside Parkway project, will begin at the intersection of Loudoun County Parkway and George Washington Boulevard from the east and continue to Riverside Commons Plaza and the existing Riverside Parkway to the west.
The work will be performed in the evening and early morning hours from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. and will include temporary and short-term traffic stoppages, lane closures and flagging operations. Motorists should expect minor delays at all intersections, including George Washington Boulevard, Smith Circle (east and west), Silvery Blue Terrace and Pearl Crescent Square.
Once completed, the existing traffic pattern will remain in place until the traffic signals and pavement markings at the intersection of Loudoun County Parkway and George Washington Boulevard are placed in the final road configuration. The opening of the roadway to through traffic is expected later this year and will be announced once a date has been confirmed.
Electronic message boards alerting the public to the work will be posted prior to and during the construction. Drivers should plan ahead and use extra caution when traveling through the area and follow all directions from the posted signs, road crews and the Loudoun County Sherriff’s Office.
This project will extend Riverside Parkway from Silvery Blue Terrace to Loudoun County Parkway at George Washington Boulevard. The scope of work includes the construction of a new four-lane, divided road segment, the removal of Lexington Drive on both sides of Route 7, a new Loudoun Water main, and the replacement of the existing temporary traffic signal at Loudoun County Parkway and George Washington Boulevard with a permanent signal.
The completion of Riverside Parkway, in conjunction with the planned Battlefield Parkway Interchange project, will improve traffic flow and will allow Route 7 to operate as a freeway west of Countryside Boulevard in Loudoun County.
Construction of this segment of Riverside Parkway is expected to be completed by the fall of 2021.
