Work to prepare an interim building constructed at the location of the former PTEX automotive shop building on East Holley Avenue in Sterling, Va. is complete. Over the last month, crews completed the installation of low voltage wiring and communication systems, and the parking lot for the new modular building that will serve as the interim fire station while a permanent facility is constructed. Work to install mechanical systems, stairs, ramps and walkways was completed and permanent power established at the end of July.
Pending fire alarm testing, the station will begin operations out of the interim building in early September and demolition of the existing station will follow. Formal notification of the transfer to the interim station will be sent out by Loudoun County Fire and Rescue and a digital sign has been placed on Holly Avenue to identify the location of the new station entrance.
This project provides funding to design and construct a new 22,000 square foot replacement station for the Sterling Volunteer Fire and Rescue Companies. The new facility will replace the current 8,772-square-foot building on this site dating from 1970 and provide more storage and parking. The one-acre property will also expand by a third of an acre.
Currently, construction is estimated to be complete in summer 2022.
