Crews Make Progress on New Courthouse Structure Exterior

Posted on September 14, 2021 at 11:09 AM by Heidi Kellum

Crews working on the expansion of the Loudoun County Courthouse are making visible progress on the new courthouse structure under construction at the corner of Church Street and Edwards Ferry Road in downtown Leesburg. Work to install exterior framing and sheathing is nearing completion on the north, south and east elevations of the new building. The Courts Complex Expansion project includes the design and construction of a new 92,000-square-foot Loudoun County District Courthouse and renovation of existing courts facilities, including new parking facilities.

On the inside of the building, crews continue to frame interior walls on the ground and first floor, and work to rough-in electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems on all floors. Over the next several weeks, masonry crews will continue work on ground level rooms, and elevator shafts on all levels.

Future phases of construction include building a tunnel under Church Street that connects the existing courthouse to the new building. The project is expected to be complete and open to the public in 2023.

Visitors to the Loudoun County Courthouse will continue to have access to free parking throughout the duration of the project. The Pennington Lot and Pennington Garage are located approximately two blocks from the courthouse near the intersection of Church and North Streets, NE.
