Loudoun County Update

  • COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Update: As we reported earlier today, booster doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will not be available in Loudoun until they are authorized by the Virginia Department of Health. On Friday, September 17, 2021, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel endorsed COVID-19 booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine for those who are 65 or older or run a high risk of severe disease. But there are several things that have to happen before Loudoun County can begin offering booster doses, including final approval from the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For now, Loudoun’s priority is vaccinating those who have not received their first or second dose. Anyone 12 and older is eligible to receive a vaccine and can make an appointment at the county's COVID-19 vaccination site at Dulles Town Center or find a convenient provider at vaccines.gov. Find more details in this news release.
  • Virginia Adds QR Codes to COVID-19 Vaccination Records: The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has announced the addition of QR codes to Virginia COVID-19 vaccination records. The barcode, which can be scanned with smartphones, will allow anyone to show proof of vaccination with a digital or printed QR code instead of a paper card, and without the need for an app. A person vaccinated in Virginia can visit vaccinate.virginia.gov to obtain their free vaccination record with QR code, which can then be saved to a phone, printed on paper or stored in a compatible account. QR codes contain the same information as paper records, but in a format that offers greater security and efficiency. Read more in this news release from VDH.
  • Next COVID-19 Testing Event is September 21: The next Loudoun County-sponsored COVID-19 testing event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Claude Moore Park, 46150 Loudoun Park Lane in Sterling. Loudoun health officials encourage people to get tested if they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue and a new loss of taste or smell or if they have been potentially exposed to someone with COVID-19, regardless of their vaccination status. To save time, you can fill out the required registration form ahead of time. The forms as well as information about other testing providers and the schedule of events may be found at loudoun.gov/covid19testing.
