Loudoun County Update

  • COVID-19 Testing Events January 25 & 28 in Purcellville: Loudoun County has scheduled COVID-19 testing events Tuesday, January 25 and Friday, January 28, 2022, at Franklin Park, 17501 Franklin Park Drive, Purcellville. Testing is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., but may begin early to mitigate traffic impacts and may close early if capacity is reached.
    • In an effort to make the testing process more efficient, the required registration form can now be filled out and submitted online prior to the testing event.
    • Submitting the form in advance is not an appointment or a guarantee for a test. The form is required and asks for general information including name, date of birth, address and phone number. The information is kept private. For anyone who cannot submit the forms online, paper forms will also be available at the testing site.
    • Depending on demand, there may be a significant wait time in the drive-thru line.
    • To be notified regarding changes in site operations, opt in to receive text message updates in English (text LCCOVID19 to 888777) or Spanish (text LCCOVIDESP to 888777), or check the Loudoun County Government Facebook page or @LoudounCoGovt on Twitter.
    • Find more details at loudoun.gov/covid19testing.
  • When to Get Tested: Public health officials encourage anyone, regardless of vaccination status, who thinks they may have been exposed to COVID-19 to get tested as well as anyone exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue and a new loss of taste or smell. Learn more about COVID-19 testing on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website
  • Other COVID-19 Testing Options: The Virginia Department of Health has established regional community testing centers in Fairfax and Prince William Counties. Both centers operate by appointment only.
  • Order Free COVID-19 Tests Online: Every home in the United States is eligible to order 4 free at-?home COVID-?19 rapid antigen tests. Officials say orders will usually ship in 7-12 days. These tests give results within 30 minutes (no lab drop-off required.)
  • What to do with Results of an At-Home Test
    • If your test is positive, you likely have a current infection. You should:
      • Notify your close contacts. Close contacts include anyone who was within 6 feet of you for 15 minutes or more (with or without wearing a mask) in a 24-hour period in the two days prior to symptom onset or the last two days if you have no symptoms.
      • Isolate at home for five days regardless of vaccination status. You may end isolation after five full days if you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and your symptoms are improving. You should continue to wear a well-fitted mask around others for five more days.
      • You do not need to notify the health department about positive results. Please call your medical provider for any symptoms that are severe or concerning to you. If you experience chest pain or trouble breathing, call 911.
  • If your test is negative, the result indicates that you may not be infected and may be at low risk of spreading disease to others, though it does not rule out an infection. Repeating the test will increase the confidence that you are not infected. Many test kits include two tests, designed for serial tests, meaning two or more tests over several days with at least 24 hours between tests.
    • If you have tested negative and are experiencing COVID-like symptoms, seek additional testing opportunities at loudoun.gov/covid19testing or contact your primary care provider for further testing and diagnosis.
  • Vaccination Opportunities: Health officials continue to encourage everyone who is eligible and who has not yet received a COVID-19 vaccine to do so. The Loudoun County Health Department encourages everyone age 5 and older who is not fully vaccinated to get a COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible. In addition, anyone who is eligible is encouraged to get a booster dose.
    • Vaccine is widely available from many providers in Loudoun, such as medical offices and pharmacies including, but not limited to, CVS, Giant Food, Harris Teeter, Safeway, Walgreens, Walmart and Wegmans. These locations have the benefit of being able to also provide flu vaccine at the same time, which is recommended by the Health Department. Visit vaccines.gov to find the vaccination site nearest to you.
