PROBATION VIOLATION NETS ANOTHER 4 YEARS IN PRISON FOR REPEAT OFFENDER

JUDGE RE-IMPOSES BALANCE OF PREVIOUSLY SUSPENDED TIME

LEESBURG, Virginia – June 28, 2013. Lee Montez Thompson, 21, appeared before Judge J. Howe Brown in Loudoun County Circuit Court for a hearing after being charged with violating his probation.

Thompson’s probation stemmed from larcenies occurring in late June and early July 2012. In the first incident, Thompson asked to borrow an iPhone from an individual so he could make a call. Once Thompson had the iPhone in his possession he rode away on a bicycle, taking the iPhone with him. The second incident occurred when Thompson and an unidentified accomplice approached a man traveling alone along a bike path in Sterling, Virginia. Thompson demanded the victim hand over his bicycle. The victim complied and the defendant and his accomplice fled the scene with the bicycle.

Thompson pleaded guilty to two counts of Grand Larceny in January 2013. Thompson was sentenced on February 8, 2013, to a total active sentence of four years in the Virginia Department of Corrections with all but approximately six months of time served suspended, conditioned upon his good behavior, payment of $400 restitution to the victims, and a two year period of supervised probation upon his release from prison.

Less than two months after being placed on supervised probation, Thompson failed to report that he was arrested for new offenses in Montgomery County, Maryland and Fairfax County, Virginia to his Probation Officer as directed and absconded. His whereabouts were unknown causing the Circuit Court to issue a Bench Warrant for his arrest.

Thompson was subsequently convicted in Maryland for Carrying a Handgun and received a forty day sentence. Thompson has preliminary hearings scheduled in Fairfax County General District Court on September 24, 2013 for Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Manufacturing a Controlled Substance.

Judge Brown found Thompson in violation of his probation and re-imposed the balance of Thompson’s previously suspended time, totaling four years. His sentence will be served in the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Thompson’s prior criminal history includes convictions in Loudoun County for Falsely Identifying himself to Law Enforcement and Underage Possession of Alcohol.
