DEFENDANT SENTENCED IN LEESBURG RETAIL ROBBERY

THREE COUNTY CRIME SPREE LEADS TO PRISON

LEESBURG, Virginia – September 24, 2013. Jason Wayne Montgomery, 28, appeared before Judge Benjamin N. A. Kendrick in Loudoun County Circuit Court for sentencing on one count of robbery. Kendrick imposed an active sentence of three years and two months in the Virginia Department of Corrections.

On the evening of January 22, 2013, Montgomery entered the Payless ShoeSource store in Leesburg and demanded all the money in the cash register and store safe. Frightened and in fear for her life, the store clerk complied with Montgomery’s orders and handed him approximately $160 from the register. The clerk subsequently granted Montgomery access to the store safe where he retrieved an unknown amount of currency and then fled the store.

Several days later, in an interview with Leesburg Police Detectives, Montgomery admitted to the robbery. He further elaborated that he was “pretty messed up,” and upon leaving the store he thought to himself “what did I just do?”

Montgomery entered an Alford plea of guilty to one count of robbery on June 24, 2013.
Kendrick imposed an additional six years and eight months of suspended time conditioned upon Montgomery’s good behavior and his successful completion of four years of supervised probation upon his release from prison. Kendrick further ordered Montgomery to have no contact with the victim in this case and to make restitution in the amount of $160 to Payless ShoeSource.

Montgomery is currently serving a three month sentence for a grand larceny charge in Winchester, Virginia and is pending sentencing in Prince William County Circuit Court on November 15, 2013 for an additional charge of grand larceny.
