LEESBURG MAN SENTENCED FOR EIGHT COUNTS OF
POSSESSION OF SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MATERIAL

LEESBURG, Virginia – June 23, 2014. Edward Pomeroy Staudt Jr., 62, appeared before Judge Stephen E. Sincavage in Loudoun County Circuit Court for sentencing on eight felony charges of Possession of Sexually Explicit Material. Sincavage imposed a total active sentence of two years and six months in the Virginia Department of Corrections.

In October 2013, Virginia State Police encountered an individual utilizing a peer to peer networking site to share child pornography. Special Agents were able to link the individual’s IP address to a residence located in the Town of Leesburg. A search warrant was executed on the residence at which time computers, hard drives, CD’s, and VHS tapes were recovered from the home. Forensic analysis on the items seized from Staudt’s residence reveled that Staudt was in possession of approximately 21, 000 child pornography images and 913 child pornography videos.

Staudt pleaded guilty to eight counts of possession of Sexually Explicit Visual Material on March 10, 2014.

Staudt received an additional 18 years and six months of suspended time. Upon his release, he will be placed on 10 years of supervised probation and he is prohibited from any unsupervised contact with minors, must remain more than 100 feet from any school, and successfully complete a sex offender treatment program.

Pursuant to Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry Act, Staudt will also be required to register as a sex offender. Information about the Virginia’s Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry and those on it can be found on the Virginia State Police website: http://sex-offender.vsp.virginia.gov.
