COMMONWEALTH’S ATTORNEY’S STATEMENT REGARDING
REPORTS OF SUPERVISOR WILLIAMS’ PAST CONDUCT

LEESBURG, Virginia – Recent reports have surfaced and have been publicized through a variety of media outlets which describe the past conduct of Broad Run District Supervisor Shawn M. Williams.

“While I acknowledge Supervisor Williams has capably and effectively served the citizens of the Broad Run community during his term, I cannot remain silent, condone or excuse his past conduct,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman.

The Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is focused on assisting victims of crime, holding offenders accountable, creating a meaningful deterrent and seeking justice for all involved in the criminal process. Domestic violence cases are the most sensitive of all due to the relationships, emotional connections and familial ties between the parties. The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office has concentrated efforts to address this very important area.

“Shortly after taking office in 2004, I created a team focused on addressing domestic violence in our community,” said Plowman. “That team includes a dedicated domestic violence prosecutor and victim-witness case manager who coordinate efforts with multiple county agencies.”

Plowman also serves on Loudoun County’s Domestic Violence Steering Committee that implements and oversees a coordinated community response to domestic violence issues. The committee also created the Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART). The DART coordinates a multi-agency response focused on increasing offender accountability through law enforcement, the court system, and community services. The team has become a statewide model, and its success has been recognized by the Attorney General of Virginia.

For more information on getting help for domestic violence, please contact the Victim and Witness Assistance Program at (703) 777-0417 or the Domestic Abuse Response Team at (703) 777-0207. Additional assistance may also be available through the Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter (LAWS) at (703) 771-7845 or http://lcsj.org/.
