PLOWMAN ELECTED TO BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF STATE BAR’S CRIMINAL LAW SECTION

TERM BEGINS JULY 1

June 20, 2015 – Virginia Beach, VA. On June 18-21, the Virginia State Bar held its 77th Annual Meeting in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman was recently nominated to serve on the Board of Governors of the Bar’s Criminal Law Section. He was elected to the position on June 20 and his term commenced July 1st.

“It’s a great honor to receive this nomination from my colleagues and be afforded the opportunity to serve our profession in this very important area of the law,” stated Plowman.

The mission of the Virginia State Bar, as an administrative agency of the Supreme Court is to regulate the legal profession of Virginia; to advance the availability of and quality of legal services provided to the people of Virginia; and to assist in improving the legal profession and the judicial system.

Organized in 1967, the purpose of the Criminal Law Section is to concern itself with the problems of crime, criminology, and the administration of criminal law in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As one of the largest sections of the Bar it broadly represents prosecutors, defense counsel, trial judges and academics concerned with the criminal justice system. It also has one of the most active continuing legal education programs. “I’m excited and look forward to working with my fellow Board members in planning the curriculum for this year’s educational program. With so many changes in criminal law, it will be a welcome experience to be on the front lines of the training as well as the publications,” continued Plowman. The section also publishes approximately eight issues a year of the Criminal Law News.
