[ARCHIVED] Registration System Slows While Handling Camp Registration Volume

The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) is experiencing slower-than-normal registration transaction speeds today, March 28, 2017, the first day of summer camp registration.

PRCS is working with contractor Vermont Systems, Inc. and the Department of Information Technology to resolve slower-than-normal transaction speeds. Although slower speeds were encountered during early March preregistration (resulting from the extensive upgrade of its registration database (RecTrac) in late January), recent load tests of the system through March 27, indicated a return to normal transaction speeds.

Extended transaction timeframes are expected to ease as the morning progresses, and are only anticipated on the first day of registration. Overnight online transactions, which started at 12:01 a.m. encountered no issues. The morning slow-down may be a result of the increased volume due to the 8:30 a.m. start of registration for remaining spots in certain licensed full-day camps and after-school programs.

Transaction speeds are slowing regardless of how/where the transaction takes place. Although online registration is an option for all programs, the department is fully staffed to accommodate on-site transactions. Registrants are advised, however, that transactions will not necessarily be completed any faster, and the odds of securing a space in the most sought after sessions will not necessarily be improved.

PRCS locations will be open during normal operating hours on March 28. Questions can be directed to camp@loudoun.gov, 703-777-0343 or staff at PRCS center and park offices.
